Kennedy Space Center was built in 1961 and opened in 1961. It was built on Merritt Island, on the Banana River, to help support the Apollo lunar landing program.
It has, on display, the famous Hubble Space Telescope, otherwise known as the Eye of the Universe. It was launched into space in 1990 to help see farther into space.
It has launched the first human journey to the moon, Apollo. It was first called Launch Operations Center (LOC) but was later renamed in memory of John F. Kennedy in 1963.
